To say that I have disliked certain popular Nintendo 64 games would be a bit of an understatement. Mario 64, Zelda; TooT, my track record with these games have been less than perfect. Which makes the fact that I like to play Starfox 64 even more suprising. Here it is, people, a popular Nintendo 64 game that I actually like! Now, on with the review!
Graphics (9.2/10)
The graphics in Starfox 64 are very well done, and improve on the landmark graphics of the original. First off, remember the graphics in the original Starfox? Well, Starfox 64 has the same basic feel, but the graphics look a whole lot better, at least they do in my opinion. The enemy designs are pretty well done, and the character designs are very well done (and stay consitent with the designs in the original Starfox). Overall, Starfox 64 has great graphics that improve on the original's innovative graphics in almost every way possible.
Music/Sound (8.9/10)
The original Starfox has classic music, and unfortunately Starfox 64 does not have as much classic music. The music is pretty good, but it's nothing revolutionary. The fifth and ninth stages have pretty cool music, though. Sound effect wise, Starfox 64 has all the basic sounds, and features a very welcome addition: Voice Acting! Yup, no more ''blip blip blip'' that was rampant in the first game, now the characters actually speak with voices! Yay! Overall, great music and great sound effects, and the addition of voice acting is a welcome sign indeed.
Gameplay/Control (9.2/10)
Starfox 64 takes the innovative ideas of the original Starfox 64 and improves on them greatly. Control wise, Starfox 64 is great. The aiming feature was well implemented and a welcome sign to myself, because it is now much easier to kill your enemies. Gameplay wise, Starfox 64 is great. Lots of stages, lots of modes, and a cool multiplayer mode. Overall, great gameplay and control.
